If you’re a vegetarian family, or simply want to cut out some meat from savoury snacks, you have come to the right site! Vegetarian snacks for kids come in many varieties and I’ve got a couple savoury snacks that are well-loved and child-approved.
The first one is Oven-Roasted Tomato on French Bread. All you have to do is preheat the oven to 150°C. Cover a rimmed baking sheet with grease-proof paper and then rip apart each tomato in half, discarding the seeds. Arrange tomatoes on that baking sheet in one layer, put salt and olive oil on it. Cook until excess juices have evaporated and tomatoes look slightly dry.
Chop the oven-roasted tomatoes finely. Stir 1/4 cup of olive oil and basil in a mixing bowl, seasoning it add 1 teaspoon of red wine vinegar, until tomatoes are slightly tart.
Toast the bread and rub it with garlic, drizzle toasts with olive oil and season lightly with salt. Spoon tomatoes on top and serve.
Another favourite amongst vegetarian snacks for kids is Hummus Quesadillas. Spread hummus over your tortilla, covering one-half of the tortilla with fillings of your choice. Fold the blank half over to create a half-moon shape.
Warm a medium skillet over medium heat, placing the folded quesadilla in the pan. Let the bottom sides warm up for a minute or two, then carefully flip. Carefully flip once again, brush the new top side lightly with olive oil, and cook until the bottom is lightly golden and crisp. Carefully flip and cook until that side is lightly golden and crisp.
Use a sharp chef’s knife to slice each quesadilla into wedges. Vegetarian snacks for kids don’t necessarily always have to be sweet, they will love this!
