Sugar has recently been all over the media, due to its link to weight gain as well as the development of overweight and obesity. According to the National Diet and Nutrition Survey, the amount of sugar consumed by children in the UK exceeds the daily recommended allowance. It was found that sugar makes up 13% of children’s daily calorie intake, while the official recommendation is to limit it to no more than 5%.
The most common sources of sugar in children’s diets are cereals, sugar sweetened beverages as well as sweets, preserves/spreads and confectionery (NDNS 2008/2009-2011/2012).
Our products are entirely made from natural ingredients and we never add refined sugars to our snacks. Some of our snacks contain naturally occurring sugar from fruit. While we are aware, that dried fruits can be high in natural sugar, they offer a great alternative to sweet snacks and confectionary, due to their high content in vitamins and minerals, fibre as well as lower content in energy and fat.
To further curb overall sugar consumption, our standard variety boxes always contain at least two savoury snacks, and we continue to work hard on extending our savoury line with new snacks and bites that kids love!
